Risk Disclosure Statement
Thank you for choosing to fly with Southern Alps Air. Safety is our highest priority, and we want to ensure that you are fully informed about the potential risks associated with choosing to fly with Southern Alps Air. Please read the following information carefully.
1. General Risk Acknowledgment
Air travel involves inherent risks, including but not limited to weather conditions, mechanical malfunctions, and human error. Southern Alps Air is committed to minimizing these risks through rigorous maintenance procedures, pilot training, and adherence to aviation safety standards. By agreeing to fly with Southern Alps Air, you acknowledge that you understand and accept the general risks associated with choosing to fly with us and to our destinations.
2. Weather Conditions
Flights are subject to weather conditions, including turbulence, wind, and temperature variations. Southern Alps Air will make every effort to ensure a safe flight, but weather conditions can affect flight comfort and safety. We reserve the right to cancel or alter flight plans based on adverse weather conditions to ensure passenger safety. Severe weather conditions can also create risks at our destinations, including, but not limited to, landslides, flooding, avalanches, and infrastructure damage.
3. Aircraft Maintenance
Southern Alps Air maintains a rigorous schedule of inspections and maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of our aircraft. Despite these measures, there is always a possibility of unforeseen mechanical issues. Southern Alps Air will take all necessary precautions to address and resolve such issues promptly.
4. Pilot Competency
Our pilots undergo comprehensive training and adhere to strict regulatory standards to ensure the highest level of competency. However, the nature of aviation means that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and while rare, these circumstances may affect flight operations.
5. Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, Southern Alps Air has established procedures to address various situations. Passengers are required to follow the instructions of the flight crew and are encouraged to familiarize themselves with safety procedures and equipment.
6. Health and Fitness
Passengers are responsible for ensuring their own health and fitness for air travel. Individuals with medical conditions or concerns should consult their healthcare provider prior to flying. Southern Alps Air is not responsible for medical emergencies or health issues that arise during the flight.
7. Luggage and Personal Items
Southern Alps Air is not liable for loss, damage, or theft of personal items or luggage. Passengers are advised to keep valuable items with them at all times and to secure their belongings.
8. Seismic Activity and Tsunami Awareness
Milford Sound is situated in a region susceptible to seismic activity and potential Tsunamisdue to the Alpine Fault Line. These natural events can pose risks to visitors including, but not limited to, landslides, rockfalls, infrastructure damage, and sudden tsunamis.

Siberia Experience Risk Disclosure Statement
Thank you for choosing to embark on the Siberia Experience with Southern Alps Air. The Siberia Experience offers a unique adventure which includes a scenic flight, an unguided freedom walk, and a Jetboat trip. The 2.5-3 hour hike follows a well-marked track which is maintained by the New Zealand Department of Conservation. Please read carefully before participating. Thanks!
1. General Risk Acknowledgment
The Siberia Experience involves activities in a wilderness environment, which includes inherent risks such as weather changes, terrain challenges, and physical exertion. All air travel involves inherent risks, including but not limited to weather conditions, mechanical malfunctions, and human error. Southern Alps Air is committed to minimizing these risks through rigorous maintenance procedures, pilot training, and adherence to aviation safety standards. By agreeing to fly with Southern Alps Air, you acknowledge that you understand and accept the general risks associated with choosing to fly with us and to our destinations.
2. Weather Conditions
• Risk: The weather in the Siberia Valley and surrounding areas can be unpredictable, with sudden changes in temperature, rain, and strong winds. Extreme weather conditions can impact the flight, trail conditions, and stream/river crossings.
• Impact: Poor weather can lead to difficult terrain, reduced visibility, and an increased risk of accidents or delays. Activities may be cancelled or altered based on weather conditions. If you feel uncomfortable at anytime while the staff are around, please let them know, especially before the stream crossing.
3. Terrain and Physical Demands
• Risk: The terrain in the Siberia Valley is rugged and can include steep slopes, uneven surfaces, and river crossings. Sticking to the well-marked DOC track is advised
• Impact: Challenging terrain increases the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to handle strenuous activities.
4. Seismic Events
• Risk: The mountainous terrain of the Siberia Valley and surrounding areas makes it vulnerable to landslides/rockfalls triggered by earthquakes. These landslides and rockfalls can occur in both steep slopes and river valleys.
• Impact: Landslides and rockfalls can damage tracks, damage property, and pose a danger to anyone in the affected areas.
5. Emergency Situations
• Risk: In the event of an emergency, such as an injury or sudden illness, the remote location may delay response times and access to medical facilities. No communication devices are provided such as a satellite communicator or a personal locator beacon (PLB).
• Impact: Participants should carry any necessary personal medications. Response times may vary based on location and conditions. If the participant deems it necessary, they should also carry their own Personal Locator Beacon or Satellite Communication Device. There is no Cell phone service for the entirety of the trip.
6. Personal Health and Safety
• Risk: Participants are responsible for their own health and fitness levels. Conditions such as heart problems, respiratory issues, or other medical conditions may be exacerbated by physical exertion and environmental factors.
• Impact: Ensure you consult with a healthcare provider before participating in strenuous activities. Inform the Southern Alps Air Staff of any concerns as there are always other options for you to Enjoy Siberia and the Mt Aspiring National Park.
